The Syrian regime
of Bashar al-Assad would prepare a new chemical attack, said Monday the United
States, which said they were ready to make him pay "the high price"
in response.
The tension is rising between Washington and Damascus. The
White House announced on Monday (June 27th) that the Syrian regime was,
according to its information, preparing a new attack on the chemical
weapon and warned Syrian President Bashar al-Assad of the "high price"
In the event of an attack on civilians.
"The United States has identified potential preparations for
another chemical attack by the Syrian regime of Assad, which could cause
the massacre of civilians, including innocent children," wrote the
spokesman for the White House Sean Spicer in a statement. If the Syrian
president launched a new chemical weapon attack, "he and his army would pay the price," warned Sean Spicer.

The preparations detected would be similar to those undertaken
prior to the attack on Khan Cheikhoune, which killed dozens of civilians
on 4 April, the White House said. Donald Trump had ordered in
retaliation for missile strikes against a Syrian airbase presented as
the starting point of the sarin gas attack. The US-led strike, the first
of its kind to be waged against Syrian pro-government forces since the
start of the conflict in 2011, has increased the risk of confrontation
between the United States on the one hand and Russia and Iran,
Damascus's main allies , the other.
US officials had defended at the time a "one-off"
intervention aimed at preventing future attacks on chemical weapons, and
not signaling an expansion of Washington's role in the Syrian conflict.
Since then, the United States has participated in a series of
operations against Iranian-backed regime forces and allied militias,
most of which have been presented as self-defense measures.
Since April, Washington has multiplied strikes on Iranian-backed
Shiite militias and killed a drone that threatened the coalition forces
and, more recently, a Syrian Air Force plane south of Raqqa.
"Any new attack on the Syrian people will be attributed to
Assad, but also to Russia and Iran who support the massacre of its own
people."
